Today’s reflection is a little different. I thought it would be fun to share my dreams and ambitions with you in order that you might consider taking this opportunity to reflect upon your own life journey; where you’re at in life and what you would like to achieve in the future.
An article titled like this could give the appearance of being self-centred, but it’s actually the case that when I was praying to God about how I can best serve Him, He said that my service to Him (in terms of evangelism and my faith life in general) is complete and that there’s nothing further He requires of me. He asked me what I would like in life and that’s what led me to brainstorm some ideas.
My ideal life looks something like this:
Make a friend or two who are true friends
Do work that I love
Find the right readers for the books I’ve written
Be financially comfortable
Experience deep peace and joy
Be healed of my injuries
Create an excellent worship album
Sleep well and not wake up with morning depression
Be healed of my mental illness
Know that my father and sister are healed, right with God and at peace
Be content with my appearance
Solve all of the theological struggles I have
Experience beautiful nature
Be forever safe from hell
Read amazing books
Listen to amazing music
Own a studio flat in a peaceful area
Enjoy lovely food and drink
Be debt free
Be organised, owning only what I use and keeping an inventory of everything I own
It’s worth pointing out that I already consider my life to be very blessed in very many ways, and we must always count our blessings. But the process of brainstorming ideas about our future can focus the mind and feel exciting, particularly if we have been too absorbed in the present to think about the future for a while.
You’ve probably heard the saying ‘We make plans, God laughs’ and I’m always conscious that my dreams and ambitions may not match up in every way with what God has planned for me. Nevertheless, I believe He is a loving Father and cares about our dreams and ambitions, while of course knowing better than we do what is truly best for us.
Feel free to leave a comment with your own dreams and ambitions!
Hey Steven! The mention of being content is a huge one for me. I find that I often notice I have so much at my fingertips when I remember to be grateful and recognise all that God has already done.
A few on my list would be:
- Continue to build on and grow friendships
- Health and contentment for my family and friends
- Having more financial freedom and stepping it to a place of freedom and piece with money
- Travel and experience more different cultures
- Have a healthy, happy, curious family
- Help in the community by sharing what I enjoy and am good at
- Doing purposeful, meaningful work
Also, your mention of experiencing nature and music, healing, deep peace and joy. Love it!
