Imagine having the God who created the heavens and the earth as your friend. Could there be anything better? The reality is that God is closer to you than your breathing, and nearer to you than your hands and feet, as Alfred Tennyson once beautifully expressed.
The journey from atheism to theism doesn’t have to be intellectual or complicated. God is with you all the time, whether you know Him or not. What separates atheists from theists is a simple act of humility — taking a quiet moment and asking a question like this: “God, if you are real, will you reveal Yourself to me?”
God is not a monster. I can’t say this is true in every case (for God does whatever He will) but I think that all it takes to have a relationship with Him is to reach out. While the reality is that we will often only do this when we’re desperate and experiencing acute suffering, that doesn’t have to be the case. If you say a prayer to God, He will hear you right now, and He may well respond (in the way He chooses and at the time He chooses).
I wonder how often many of us pray bold prayers — prayers like “Father, will you give me a deep and enduring happiness?” or “Father, will you heal me of my sickness?”. Can you think of any reason why if you speak with God in humility and ask Him to help you, He will not respond in kindness?
Perhaps you are not convinced there is a God who will talk with you. But have you taken the time to consider this deeply? Look at a flower. Why has this sprung up from the ground? Isn’t it odd? Look up to the sky. Why are there stars and clouds and rainbows and how is it that the sun is positioned in such a way that it gives us precious warmth? Can it really be the case that everything that has ever happened to you is pure chance?
It is possible for you to have a relationship with your Creator and perhaps this article is the nudge you need in order to connect, or reconnect with Him.
God is available to hear from you. Why not ask Him to be your friend?
