Is it possible to know for certain that God exists?
In the beginning of my spiritual journey, I embarked upon a quest to understand suffering. This led me into the world of Eastern philosophy. The idea of enlightenment fascinated me and I expended time and energy exploring a variety of meditation practices. However, I was unable to find peace.
New Age spirituality absorbed much of my attention until a mental health crisis in my twenties caused me to reexamine my understanding of reality in light of the Bible, which I read during an admission to psychiatric hospital in 2007. This experience was hugely transformative.
I felt inspired to write about this journey towards reading the Bible and my story is recalled in a book called The Philosophy of a Mad Man, which is the opening book in my four-book compilation Puppets. The other three books in the compilation reflect my immersive exploration of the Christian faith, with an emphasis on philosophical discussion of matters related to the existence of God and divine sovereignty. The title ‘Puppets’ reflects my understanding that there is one God who animates all activity in creation, including all human activity.
I self-published Puppets because I felt these four books, when read in succession, have the potential to help others navigate spiritual struggles that can be uncomfortable and confusing. My hope in publishing this book is that God will use my writing about my experiences to awaken others to the reality of His existence and to begin to live their lives in a God-centred way.
